Global growth creates multiple career opportunities at Claxton
Claxton currently has multiple roles open across it’s operations teams – learn more about them at our vacancies section.
The global offshore oil and gas industry has remained buoyant despite the challenges faced by economic downturn and is filled with opportunities and rewards for those trying to further their career. People often think of Aberdeen when they think of the UK offshore industry, but in East Anglia there’s also a vibrant and growing offshore hub, serving not only the Southern North Sea on our doorstep, but also the needs of major operators all around the world.
One success story from the East of England and Southern North Sea is Great Yarmouth-based Claxton Engineering. Claxton specialises in services for jack up drilling, offshore structures and decommissioning and is part of the Acteon group of subsea services companies – which is a perennial fixture in the top ten companies in the East of England region.
Having worked in the North Sea since 1985, Claxton is finding growing demand for its services in new markets, leading to an ambitious expansion plan.
Richard Jenkins, VP of Operations for Claxton, explained more; “Claxton already works extensively in the Middle East, Far East and Norway, but demand for our services is growing in these regions and our mission as a business is to provide responsive solutions to the challenges our clients face. This means two things; firstly that we’ll be opening significant bases in Norway and Singapore to support our customers and secondly that our team needs to grow to fuel our global growth. It’s a really exciting time for the company – we have opportunities across the business for new team members and for genuine career growth.”
The result of Claxton’s growth plan is a recruitment drive to boost the size of the company’s team in key operational areas – including project engineering, design engineering, workshop and offshore service technician roles.
Jenkins continues: “It’s a really positive story. We’re a stable, growing business and we’re lucky to have such a talented team. In the last year we’ve taken on a number of new team members in key engineering and operations roles and our apprentice scheme is going from strength to strength. For anyone looking to take their offshore engineering career in a new direction, there’s a great opportunity with Claxton. We’re looking for everything from a projects department manager to workshop employees to help us grow the company.
Claxton has been responsible for a number of industry innovations that have earned it a reputation for being one of the premier oilfield service companies in the North Sea when it comes to quality of service and rapid problem solving. This includes being the first company to decommission a platform well without the use of a rig and providing the first 12,200psi high pressure drilling riser ever used in the North Sea.
Richard Jenkins is keen to point out that these achievements are due to a strong workforce: “It’s fair to say we’re proud of our technical achievements, but we’re most proud of the strength of our workforce. Our team really pulls together to deliver for our clients – something really amazing happens at Claxton when we get a call from a client who needs our help to solve a challenge. That’s one of the reasons Claxton builds such strong relationships with our customers, they trust us to deliver and our team works together to make that happen.”
