Riser tension rings

ACTEON'S FIELD-PROVEN RISER TENSION RING DESIGNS ARE IN USE BY NUMEROUS OPERATORS AND HAVE BEEN MUCH-COPIED BY THE COMPETITION. HOWEVER, THE INNOVATIVE TECHNICAL EXPERTISE THAT CREATED, AND CONTINUES TO DEVELOP OUR TENSION RINGS CAN ONLY BE FOUND WITHIN OUR COMPANY.

Many offshore operators already call us when they need a tension ring, with the positive grip design being the preferred choice for most requirements. We engineer solutions to suit clients’ individual needs for push or pull application and have the capability to accommodate up to 400 tonnes in a suspended application. Our non-marking slips are a great solution for high-stress areas or where fatigue is a consideration.

Our tension rings can be dressed with slips for any non-standard pipe sizes and we can also manufacture bespoke rings for project-specific applications. A large fleet of rapid call-off tensioning equipment, along with full drilling riser systems up to 12,200 psi for HPHT applications, tension systems, crossovers, DSAs, overshots and other rental tools is available.

Our riser experience pioneered, and then refined, the grip and slimline tension rings:

Positive grip tension rings – Product and service line brand, Claxton, pioneered the original positive grip tension ring – which, using interchangeable machined slips, is installed on slick pipe of all sizes, weights and grades – saving rig time, eliminating ‘space out’ issues and removing the need for welding.

Positive grip slimline tension rings (next generation) – This time-saving slimline tension ring can be taken from a container directly onto the drill floor, attached to the riser and the riser and tension ring can be run through the rotary table together, saving rig time. Designed in-house, the slimline tension ring maintains the rugged performance expected of more traditional designs, despite being significantly smaller while providing 400 tonnes capacity.
