About drilling & pinning

Safely and efficiently secure multiple casing strings

Our drilling and pinning system lets you secure and recover multiple casing strings safely and efficiently during well recovery. It’s available as a single or double unit and is suitable for both surface and subsea applications.

The flexible system can be provided as part of a package including rapid-cut bandsaws and/or subsea abrasive cutting for severance, as well as hydraulic jacking systems during the recovery phase. This enables the safe retrieval of multiple casing strings simultaneously, independent of rig operations.

As a cold work technique, drilling and pinning is especially suited to abandonment operations where adjacent wells are still in production.

For end-of-life platforms, our method of drilling and pinning the conductor below sea level and pulling it up by the internal strings mitigates issues caused by corroded casing.

Compared to conventional methods, using specialist technology to drill, pin and recover the conductor requires less deck space for the recovered casings, simplifying disposal logistics and reducing costs.

  • Single drilling units available for applications where access is an issue
  • Double drilling and pinning units available for simultaneous boring of both sides of the conductor and casings
  • Modular design with multiple handling points for ease of installation and operation
  • All units certified for zone II applications
  • Suitable for surface or subsea applications
  • Conductor end caps provided to mitigate dropped object potential
