Claxton and National Decommissioning Centre deliver Subsea Laser Cutting System

Claxton Engineering Services has been working with our partner the National Decommissioning Centre to deliver a Subsea Laser Cutting System. Recently we have reached a milestone and are preparing the tooling for further offshore field trials with a UK Operator.

The current system is ready to be deployed for cutting 24” up to 30” piles or conductors down to 500m WD, and the technology is suitable for underwater cutting applications across O&G, Nuclear and Renewables industries.

Further developments will see the ability to operate in deeper water and structure decommissioning with ROV fly to place laser cutting tools.

When compared to conventional cutting equipment the Laser Cutting System benefits from:

  • Quicker cut times
  • Flexible, lightweight tooling
  • Reduced POB
  • Reduced Deck Footprint

If you have any suitable cutting applications for this tooling we’d love to hear from you, please contact our Decommissioning Technical Manager Craig Baxter CEng MIET.
