Conductor Installation Services – Claxton Engineering

The Challenge

Claxton were awarded with the contract for the installation of six new wells off the coast of Benin, Africa. Claxton utilised Hydrohammer packages, cold-cutting equipment, and a team of offshore technicians to deliver a fully integrated solution for the client.
The project required providing a bespoke technical solution for the installation of two 36” conductor wells with unconventional connections. While the limited geotechnical data for the area required Claxton to account for multiple soil scenarios ensuring the wells could be driven to the client’s specification.

The Solution

Claxton’s onshore hammer specialist worked closely with the client to advise the optimal hammer packages, ensuring they could accommodate the conductor size of 36” to meet the required target depths.
To address the challenges posed by the unconventional conductor connections, Claxton’s engineering team developed a fully bespoke technical solution. This approach was supported by detailed drawings and associated documentation to validate the proposed installation methodology and ensure safe, efficient execution in line with project requirements.

The Result

Claxton successfully prepared and mobilised all Hydrohammer and cold cutting equipment from Great Yarmouth, ensuring timely delivery to Benin in alignment with the arrival of the Gerd Jack-up Rig.
The installation of the two 36” conductor wells were executed using the Claxton S90 hammer package and cold cutting equipment, delivering outstanding operational performance:

• Zero injuries and zero incidents
• Zero downtime throughout installation activities
The project demonstrated Claxton’s ability to deliver complex conductor installation scopes efficiently and safely, while maintaining certainty, high safety standards, and full compliance with client requirements.
