Abrasive Jacket Cutting & Structure Reuse

The Solution

Claxton developed and executed a tailored subsea cutting strategy that combined specialist expertise, proven technology, and precise operational control. A 90m SPRT (Soil Plug Removal Tool) system was deployed to remove soil plugs and prepare the piles for installation of the xcalibre Internal Pile Cutting (IPC) tooling, creating the optimal conditions for the cutting campaign.

The xcalibre Abrasive Cutting Solution was then utilised to deliver controlled, high-precision cuts at a consistent depth and elevation across all four jacket legs, ensuring the structure remained intact and suitable for recovery and redevelopment. To further enhance operational assurance and mitigate risk, adapted Go/No-Go criteria were applied throughout the campaign and supported by Claxton’s global pool of abrasive cutting specialists during both planning and execution.

The Result

The project successfully prepared the lower jacket section for safe recovery, relocation, and reinstallation, enabling the complete reuse of the asset following its 20km wet tow to the new location.

The campaign established Claxton’s first regional jacket total reuse reference project and demonstrated the successful introduction of xcalibre technology into the APAC market. By eliminating the need for significant new fabrication, the project supported a lower-waste and more sustainable redevelopment approach, delivering both environmental and economic benefits to the client.

The success of the campaign has created a proven, repeatable technical model for future jacket reuse projects and further strengthened Claxton’s position as a leader in complex subsea cutting, recovery, relocation, and asset reuse solutions across the region.
