Project in-focus: drilling riser rental success for the deep panuke field
5,000PSI DRILLING RISER IN DETAIL
The Claxton 5,000 psi riser system has an outer diameter of 24” and an inner diameter of 21” with a wall thickness of 1.½”. With an operating pressure of 5,000psi, but a test pressure of 7,500psi, the riser also includes:
- A Vetco NT-2 quick connect
- Full suite of tensioning equipment from stock
- Made of API 5L X65 and X80 pipe with proprietary connections
- TSA Coating Norsok M501-7
- Subsea H4 connector Vetco E, ExF and EWHD
Claxton was also able to offer Encana personnel to run the system. Their task was to drill and complete one new well as well as re-enter and complete 4 suspended wells in a water depth of 44 metres.
Claxton provided the drilling riser system for over 400 days, starting from January 2010, and it was used on all 5 wells with no problems, lost time, or incidences – despite the consistently poor weather in the area.
Speaking about the project, Technical Director Dannie Claxton said, “Claxton has been supplying riser systems for twenty years now and the experience we have built up during that time is something that we believe sets us apart from the competition.”
“We were naturally delighted to win this project, and to have it end so successfully too is a great endorsement for our team.”
