LATEST NEWS: Claxton secures extensive Middle East hot tapping campaign
Claxton, an Acteon company, has been awarded a contract to supply hot tapping and milling services to a client onshore in the Middle East.
The operator secured Claxton’s services to perform corrective work on problematic wells which have Xmas tree master valves stuck in fully closed or partially open positions with free rotation of hand wheels, which is due to gate lift nut threads wash out. The first phase of work involves 11 wells, with a total of 13 strings being hot tapped.
As part of their commitment to HSE, asset integrity and maintaining production at the field, the client contracted Claxton to perform the work on the basis of having similar experience in resolving these issues. Claxton proposed the methodology and equipment to safely hot tap the defective valves. This process then allows accessibility to secure the wells by killing and installing back-pressure valves which enables valve repairing or change out jobs to commence.
Claxton are supplying onshore service personnel, crane, tools, a hot tapping machine, hydraulic power unit and air compressor to service the wells. This vital asset integrity operation will allow the client to maintain productivity of the fields and futureproof the components against further complications.
The success of the first phase led to the agreement of a variation order for 10 additional wells, with 15 strings to hot tap, which Claxton are currently working on. The operator’s hot tapping requirements are ongoing and Claxton hope to secure a further three-year contract later this year.
