High-Pressure riser project for Deep Panuke concludes successfully
Claxton, has recently completed an extensive drilling riser rental project for Encana Corporation’s Deep Panuke field development offshore Nova Scotia, Canada.
The 5000-psi riser system was supplied as a system-and-connector package that included large-bore, 24-in-diameter riser joints, Claxton positive-grip tension rings, an H4 connector, umbilicals and a hydraulic power unit, all of which were drawn directly from Claxton’s rapid call-off rental inventory.

Claxton also provided the personnel to run the system, which was used to drill and complete one new well and to re-enter and complete four suspended wells in approximately 44 m of water from the Rowan Gorilla III jackup rig.
Dannie Claxton, technical director, said,
“Claxton has been supplying riser systems for 20 years now, and the experience we have built up during that time is something that we believe sets us apart from the competition. Claxton provided the system for over 400 days, and the riser was run on five wells with no problems or lost-time incidents. We were naturally delighted to win this project, and to have it end so successfully is a great endorsement for our team.
“We have a riser and adaptor rental inventory that extends to over 470 m of riser, 4000 ancillary tooling items and a variety of different connection types, including fullbore API/NACE compliant systems up to 12,200 psi. No other company in the market can offer this breadth of inventory when providing clients with the options best suited to their projects,” he concludes.
